It increased by 500% in November! BYD is eye-catching in the European market!

According to the preliminary data of Dataforce, a market research organization, the sales of new cars in Europe increased by 6.1% year-on-year in November, reaching over 1.05 million. In this context, BYD’s sales performance in Europe is particularly eye-catching, with a year-on-year increase of up to 500%.

Volkswagen brand became the number one car brand in Europe in November, followed by BMW and Toyota. Among China brands, BYD’s performance is remarkable, with its sales volume increasing by nearly 500%, and its ranking has been promoted to 38th, which is a significant improvement compared with 46th in November, 2022. BYD’s sales surge is mainly due to the strong demand for Atto 3 pure electric compact crossover in the European market.

Overall, 37 of the 46 automobile brands achieved year-on-year growth, among which 12 brands, including Lotus, Fisker, Ineos, Euler, Tucki and Great Wall, achieved triple-digit or higher growth.

It is also worth mentioning that the sales volume of MG brand under SAIC in November increased by 46% year-on-year to 19,868 vehicles. Cumulative sales data show that MG has successfully doubled its sales volume to more than 200,000 vehicles. However, sales of 27 brands also declined, among which Ford’s sales decreased by 13% year-on-year to 40,703 vehicles, which led to its ranking dropping from the 8th in November 2022 to the 12th. The decline in Ford’s sales is mainly due to the decline in sales of three key models, namely Fiesta compact car, Focus compact car and Kuga compact SUV.

Throughout 2023, Tesla Model Y has been the best-selling model in Europe in the second month of each quarter. However, the sales volume in November decreased by 8.2% year-on-year to 17,464 vehicles, ranking second. This may be related to the dispute between Tesla and trade unions and pension funds in northern Europe. Tesla refused to accept the collective bargaining rights of Swedish employees, which led to the spread of strikes to neighboring countries, and Tesla was forced to transport cars to Sweden by truck.
